Our First Blog Entry

May 18, 2018

Well, it has been a few weeks since I updated my website and posted a little blog. It has been a crazy few weeks, celebrating a big birthday myself and my youngest having her birthday too. May has been awesome so far! Busy but awesome. I have been teaching a lot of classes, cakes and cupcakes, pop over to my classes page to see my student's work.

For this BIG birthday, I treated myself to a cake from the uber talented Tracy from Little Cherry Cake Company. I ordered a Crash Bandicoot cake as that was my very favourite game growing up and I wanted something fun and bright. Tracy did an exceptional job on it, pop over to her FB page and see it.

For my daughter (who shared her party with me) she wanted a woodland/fairy cake for a few weeks, that then changed to fairy only. So my original plan was a tree stump and then blue cake and some toadstools etc, I have done this so many times though, I wanted to try something new. I was on pinterest one evening (as you do just before bed) and saw a stack of plant pots and fairy houses for the garden and decided that I HAD to try this in cake. I was stupidly terrified about carving a cake into a plant pot shape, but once I got started it was easy. So I did a stacked 8" and 6" plant pot cake with a fairy and fairy houses, toadstools and some little cacti and succulents too.  When my little girl saw it, her mouth dropped open and her eyes stared in awe and her words to me were 'it looks just like a story' .... THAT made me well up, I had done good then! As her actual birthday was during the week, I also made her a little 6" round rainbow Minnie Mouse themed cake for after school as you can't have a birthday day without a cake and candle too.

So here are some photos of her cakes! Have a lovely week and it's NEARLY half term and a bit of time off for me to catch up with myself.

One of my regulars contacted me a few weeks ago to create her daughter's 6th birthday cake. She wanted a mermaid/princess/fairy/girly cake. So I had the idea to create a mermaid princess under the sea castle cake. I had so much fun making this and trying a new design out and the customer just trusted me and left me to it. On collection, her delight and Emily's face were amazing, they loved it! I also got had the honour of creating a dear friends' little girls' 4 birthday cake. She has had a Pooh Bear, Jungle and Peppa Pig cake from me since her 1st birthday. This year she wanted Tchoupi and Dou Dou themed cake, these are French characters (her dad is French), she also LOVES being in the garden with her mom and dad so I went with a garden theme too. Now a new week, a craft box cake and willow tree figures design too.

Well this was a BUSY week! Busiest of the year so far and such an array of designs to create. Cakes for boys, girls, teenager and mom. From princess to power ranger and everything in between. The trick this week was balancing having kids on Easter holidays and running my business, all the while it poured with rain and kids were stuck inside. We survived ... onwards and upwards to next week and some glorious sunshine and more new designs. x

This was a week of 'new designs' for me. I got 3 different orders for completely new themes that I haven't done before. The first was a cactus themed cake, one I have been itching to do for a while now. It was for a young 15 year old so my customer didn't want it too 'old' or 'young' something pretty in between. I was so in the zone making the cake decorations that I made extras and made a batch of cupcakes so I could do a whole set with cake and cupcakes and I was honestly delighted with the results as was my customer.  My 2nd cake was a cosmetic bag cake with little bits of cosmetics, again I loved working on this and carving a little bit and adding little pretty touches. My 3rd cake was a very last minute order (I don't often get to do these due to time) but when she said she wanted a cake in the shape on a sandwich, I couldn't resist the temptation to take it on, something totally new again. I had a lot of fun in the cake room this week, trying to designs, techniques and modelling and I am well and truly ready for a busy week again this week!

It was a quieter week in the cake room this week. Just one cake and I thoroughly enjoyed making this Pooh bear and friends cake for a little guy celebrating his 1st birthday and Christening. I have made a few of these cakes now but this time I added some rainbow bunting, toadstools and bees. Until next week!

This was my first really busy week of 'spring' (it's snowing outside). I know from now leading through summer it just gets crazy busy.  This was my favourite from the week though. I have made cakes for Jasmin since her Christening 8 years ago and each year I have the honour of creating cakes for her and her big sister. I was delighted when she asked for this theme. My favourite themes are those I can put together myself with my own creativity and imagination. Jasmin's only stipulation was that she wanted a mole included, she trusted me as always and her face when she saw it this morning was pure delight.  There are some cakes that are hard to let go of, this is definitely one of them.

I managed to make a little 'mini tutorial' on how to create the wood effect on the tree stump too. Check out my Mini Tutorials page.

I also got to make a 3D sitting Minion this week too and I kind of fell a wee bit in love with him too, felt like I needed to hug him and keep him too.  My other 2 cakes this week were a remake of the top of one of my Frozen designs and a big superhero cake for another little guy who has had quite a few cakes from me in recent years. Have a lovely new week!

Pink White Ruffles Wedding Cake Roses Quilted Quilting Pearls

Happy Mother's Day to all the UK mums!

This week my main and only focus was working on this huge 4 tier wedding cake. I was honoured to be asked to create this cake for one of my regular customers. She knew what she wanted and we worked together to get a design from various snippets of other cakes she loved. The base was an 11" round carrot cake and it was extremely heavy, the 2nd tier a lovely soft red velvet cake, followed by a vanilla cake and then topped off with a fruit cake. I put 2 fruit cakes together to get the height I wanted for the top tier. The base is individual rose petals ruffled and stuck closely together, this itself was 4.5 hours of work, but the effect was exactly what I wanted.  I only took this one order on this week so I could only focus on it, with no other cakes/designs to worry about. So 3 full days of baking, ganaching, icing, working sharp edges and decorating, I finally got to put it together at The Grove in Watford yesterday and I was very happy to see it all together and safely delivered.   Wishing Vicki and her new husband a lifetime of happiness together! I hope you loved your cake! Shereen xxx

Pastel Rainbow Cake Pandicorn Unipanda Pandacorn Dabbing Unicorn

My latest week!

February 28th

This week was my daugther's 12th birthday and she didn't want a big cake ... for a while she didn't want a cake at all! How would we sing happy birthday then ... gotta have a cake to put the candles in!  So I made her something little, pastel colours and a dabbing unicorn and pandicorn! She squealed with delight when she saw this! She did also request some cupcakes for school, so I sat making 48 unicorn, rainbow and pandicorn designs for her to take in to school to share with friends. I thoroughly enjoyed making this all!
